This workshop is designed to provide students with a foundation in the fundamentals of the hoofing style of tap dance and prepare them for a studio style dance class. Through a series of warm ups, basic time steps and call & response exercises, students will learn the rudiments of tap dance along with terminology and techniques for execution. In addition, students will be introduced to the basic facets of timing, syncopation and range of motion and explore how these elements are essential to musicality and visual appeal. This workshop is designed for mid level students who already have a foundation in the rudiments and seek to further their training. This class focuses on utilizing warm up routines and choreography to reinforce timing, syncopation and range of motion. Students will also gain an understanding of how the 32 bar chorus forms the context for musicality in tap dancing. This workshop is an intensive for advanced level students who wish to improve their technique, broaden their approach and explore their voice as tap dance musicians. Through advanced studio warm ups, dynamic choreography, exercises in improvisation and group cyphers, students will learn the fundamentals of phrasing and explore the creative process in making music.
